The Film

She set his heart free. He wrote her a symphony. Their love took flight.

Mav, a songwriter battling writer's block and a crumbling marriage to successful singer Kitty, finds new inspiration when he meets Jenna, a massage therapist and aspiring songwriter. On the tail end of her own collapsing relationship with convict Trey, Mav and Jenna confront their fears and insecurities as they uncover the courage to chase their dreams of love and music. But will they find each other?

Butterfly and The Bee is an offbeat romantic comedy with plenty of music – based loosely on a true story. In fact, the concept came from a flood of songs written by singer-songwriter and producer Darryl Taylor, who goes by Maverick Blue, at a time when he least expected it. The screenplay was written by longtime friend, Vlad Forgac, over the course of seven years, based largely on a series of conversations he and Darryl had about a chapter in Darryl’s life.

The story follows Mav, a struggling singer-songwriter married to Kitty, a regionally successful singer. With their relationship crumbling and Mav facing writer's block, he visits massage therapist Jenna, who opens up his heart to a flood of new songs. An aspiring singer-songwriter herself, whose own relationship is drawing to a close, Jenna accepts musical help from Mav, who is now head over heels in love with her. But Jenna’s thug of a boyfriend, Trey, isn’t quite ready to call it quits, and neither is Kitty. All the while, the songs keep coming.

As Mav pours his soul into each and every love-inspired tune, Jenna is forced to decide between Trey, Mav, and her own dreams and aspirations. While confronting their fears and failing relationships, they find the courage to pursue their passion and their music. But they also find much more than they bargained for.
